#924: B2 shuts off after a while, battery no longer charges
----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------
Reporter: andrey | Owner: mlj
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone: Untriaged
Component: hardware | Keywords: battery b2
----------------------+-----------------------------------------------------
We have observed the following problem with five new B2 units, which were
unpacked from the box and then plugged in.
1. the laptops all ran for a while (about 4 hours), at first their
batteries were charging (orange light) and eventually they were fully
charged (no light)
2. one by one, each laptop shut off completely without user intervention
3. when powering on a 'dead' laptop, the green light briefly comes on and
then the whole thing powers off again
4. if I take the battery out and wait several minutes, replace the
battery, and press the power button the laptop will power on and get
either as far as the firmware screen or (at best) a few steps into Linux
boot, but will then power off again
Eventually all five units 'died' like this and we haven't been able to get
one to boot all the way back up since. However the amount that each will
boot seems to have something to do with how long the battery is removed
for.
