 What I do at demonstrations to tech people is simple:

 - Press CTRL-ALT-F1 (the mesh button) to switch to console
 - Login as root
 - type "uname -a"
 - type "lspci"

 And explain to them that we are using an almost vanilla kernel, what the
 different devices are etc.
