Comment:
The laptop which triggered the ticket has undergone moderate use since
it's repair (including daily transport in a bag) without incurring another
failure of the RTC clock.
From Quanta Production:
This is due to the supplier of the battery holder using two different
plastic parts factories. One of the cavity molds in one of its factories
has aged and caused the parts to become too big to properly hold the
battery closely. These parts might allow the battery to fall out if the
laptop is exposed to a large enough impact during shipping/use.
Quanta QA reacted quickly to this ticket and discovered the root cause
with the help of the battery holder supplier. They took action to block
systems it suspected of having the problem from shipping. Units which
were shipped which might have this problem are:
G1G1 SKU - 1, 14,065 units
SKU - 3, 515 units
SKU - 5, 6,688 units
SKU - 6, 1,010 units
At this time, we don't know the percentage of these machines which might
have the problem but are looking into it. This problem was amplified by a
specification error which caused the firmware shipped on those laptops to
lock down on clock reset. This has been fixed in OFW firmware versions
equal to or greater than Q2D07 --- users of these laptops should
immediately upgrage their machines.
