#5738: Read fails to render document entirely

While attempting to read PDFs located on the local filesystem, encountered
problems. I would post the PDFs in question, but they are copyrighted and
watermarked and such. Both PDFs were prepared by the same company
(DriveThruRPG), presumably with the same settings.

First PDF is 10.4 MB (258 pages). Most pages failed to render entirely,
missing discrete elements (the contents of a grey box, but not the grey
box itself, or most of the text in a box, or all of the text on a page but
not the header/footer graphics, etc). Trying to select the missing text
revealed it, though non-selectable missing elements in the region did not
 appear.

Without closing the first reader, I opened the second file (about 400kb,
26 pages). This appeared to work correctly, but after scrolling a few
pages the system locked (couldn't move cursor, kill X or switch to
 console).

After rebooting, tried this again. No lockup this time, but the larger
document still failed to render in exactly the same way as before (the
same elements did or did not render).
