Comment:

 re-opening. This is not a duplicate of 5494. That bug describes a blank
 journal. This bug is an entirely absent journal. Furthermore, this is a
 G1G1 laptop, not an Uruguay laptop.

 I can try upgrading to the new build anyway. Am I correct in assuming that
 this wiki page: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activated_Upgrade is the correct
 one to be following?

 If that resolves the problem I will re-close this bug.
