 Yeah, some serial number read from the device is provided by HAL and we
 use that as the mount point.

 No, HAL notifies the Journal via D-Bus that a new device has been
 inserted. Then the journal requests HAL to mount the device. See if you
 wish VolumesManager.py in the journal-activity repository.

 Most probably the journal logs would tell what is failing there. I'm
 unfortunately unable to reproduce myself.
