I would like to suggest a configuration to optionally ignore *all* "finger
 down"
events from the touchpad. For me, and I suspect in many applications,
a button click is sufficient and actually more precise and desirable
-- especially in the presence of erratic "finger down" events.
This might be a more reliable workaround for most people.

I know I've had problems with false "finger down" events on touchpads
on other kinds of computers, perhaps because our dry winter air
promotes the accumulation of electrostatic charges.
I always end up disabling the "finger down" event anyway.
