Comment(by davidpfarrell):
I have never been able to successfully install an SD card into my new OLPC
(Just arrived on 12/20).
I get the errors mentioned in the ticket description every time.
The first time I plugged the card in, I pushed it as far as it would go,
but it did not feel like it was completely in - But again it would not
insert any farther. There was no spring-click feeling that you usually
get when inserting an SD card into slots.
The card did not register in the Journal.
After spending a minute or two carefully prying it out, I tried inserting
it again.
This time I was able to insert it further and get the satisfying lock-
click.
But the card never seemed to register in the Journal.
I then discovered this page:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Tests/SD_card
Switching to the console and checking dmesg showed errors similar to the
one in the ticket description.
After several failed inserts, I then tried with a different SD card, which
also failed.
NOTE: Both SD cards are SanDisk 2gb, one being standard & the other being
UltraII - Purchased at different times from different places.
As the error messages seem to indicate bad blocks, I decided to reformat
the SD card. I formatted it in WinXP Pro SP2 using the FAT filesystem
(which is what it was formatted when I purchased it)
This did not help.
It is only in writing this message that I realize that my first insert,
which did not act normally, might have initiated the problem. I've not had
as much trouble removing the card as I did that first time, either.
Any advice would be appreciated.
