 Well, I was all ready to test with files of varying sizes, but I didn't
 even need to go that far.  The first test I did with a zero byte file
 caused the problem.
 Same exact issue, The Journal is 'stuck' on the USB drive view, and
 attempting to start any other apps just has them flashing in 'starting'
 mode and they never come up.

 Restarting sugar with ctrl-alt-erase clears up the problem.

 Here's the contents of datastore.log:
 1198254463.151171 ERROR root: Error while trying to load mount point
 /media/LEXAR MEDIA/.olpc.store: Cannot open tables at consistent
 revisions. Will try to renitialize and load again.
