but if someone would like me to ship it to them to figure out what's going
on, or tell me what logs to collect, I'll hold off.

That turns out to be the latest released firmware for the WAP11 rev 2.8.

This is getting weirder all the time. I tried a WinXP Pro SP 2 machine,
and it could *not* access the Linksys in WEP 128 bit mode either. I then
checked with MacOS X 10.3.9, and it *was* able to connect. I tried the XO
again at that point, and it *successfully connected* on the first try
(both devices have been rebooted since the dozen+ earlier unsuccessful
attempts). I then circled back, and the Win XP machine *was* able to
connect. Now, all three machines are sharing the link successfully. This
is smelling like an access point issue, so I'm retiring that AP and going
 shopping.
