 The ability to script things via tunneled commands (such as ssh) to
 interact with the datastore and Journal are limited by the fact that
 'import datastore' in a Python application pulls in GTK.  It would be nice
 to be able to get the necessary functionality (such as writing data to the
 journal) without having to have GTK+ pulled in.  See #5571 for a specific
 usage that would benefit from not having this problem.
