Comment:

 May have a solution (hard to tell with my pygame install messed up here).
 Try updating.  I've switched from producing '\000' to producing '' for the
 unicode value when an unprinted key is pressed.

 I can't now provoke the same error I was seeing, but I've seen weird
 situations show up (e.g. the "T" key seeming to get stuck).
