Comment:

 I think this is related to two things:

  - when you tell the shell to switch to another activity, the shell first
 asks the currently active to save itself to the DS,

 - when the activity updates its entry in the DS, the journal updates
 itself.

 Most of that happens asynchronously, but consumes cpu that is needed for
 the frame animation.
