 Even if there is no way to force files in data/ to be group-writable, the
 problem (2) is independent from whether we set $HOME or not. E.g., when I
 changed etoys to use SUGAR_ACTIVITY_ROOT I did not discover the
 permissions problem immediately. So I don't think ithe situation would get
 worse, but it would help porting certain activities.

 Also, this is independent from whether to put the data dirs into /home or
 not (yes, I should have opened a second ticket...)
