Comment (by smcv):

Activities on the server and link-local activities are distinct. We know
that, and there's nothing we can do about it in the short or medium term.

 However...

The way the PS is *meant* to be working (I fixed a related bug this
morning) is that activities on the server are advertised to the server,
and activities that are link-local are advertised on the local link - i.e.
if you can see someone's activity, you can join it.

It's possible that this bug is caused by activities not being unadvertised
when they should be, or by activities being advertised on the wrong
 protocol.

In either case, we may have fixed it "accidentally" with the refactoring
we did for invitation support - in order to make invitations sane, we
tightened some restrictions, so attempting to advertise an activity that
doesn't actually exist (on this protocol) will fail, and activities will
be unadvertised automatically when they cease to exist. If the Presence
Service is buggy, Gabble will raise an error instead of accepting the
wrong information, and we'll see tracebacks in the PS log.
