Comment:

 If this is the Firefox 3.0 based version of xulrunner, then this
 is a dupe of #2821.

 I've already seen it with shenki.  I think it was not
 related to X in any way because:

  - Running firefox with DISPLAY redirected to my PC (F7),
    I could still see the exact same corruption.

  - Switching to 32bpp would cure the problem

  - Disabling acceleration in X would *not* cure the problem

 I'm adding Jordan and shenki on Cc in case they want to comment.
