 Oh sure. That works; the text is not eliminated. If screen space isn't
 running short though, visible labels are better.

 To be clear though: this is not just for kids who can read or even mostly
 for kids who can read, though reducing the guess-what-this-funny-icon-
 means problem is nice. It's for kids who are learning to read. (they can't
 read, but they are trying)

 As an example, consider Tux Paint. This app is usable by kids as young as
 3, and the occasional bright 2 year old. All buttons have labels, all
 toolbars have a header label, and there is even a status area at the
 bottom of the screen that contains text. Kids seem to take pride in
 learning the words in an app that they care about.
