 Who says you need to control access - you're not discussing giving
 everyone root access or anything.  When out in the field, anyone within
 wireless range will be able to connect, so why not over the internet.  The
 school server should be hardened anyway, and exposing it to the outside
 might be a good real-world test of that.   Obviously if there are any
 problems, it can be taken offline or improvements made.
