 Well my initial idea was what you describe... Though it's pretty
 complicated to implement and I didn't want to add more complexity to
 Palette (which is already very complex even if far from complete). I think
 we should  refine this later when Palette will be more or less complete or
 when it will actually get in the way (it would not require API changes
 anyway so we can do it at any time).
