Comment (by rchokshi):

The transmission of beacons at all times is by design. We had agreed
originally that the MP as well as the MPP will always transmit mesh
beacons. This is mainly to advertise the existence of mesh network to the
new nodes that have just been booted up and looking for mesh networks
around them. There are two ways to resolve this and we can do both:

 1. We can disable the beacon transmission in the MPP mode but this
basically means that the new nodes that discover the mesh networks will
not get to know if there is a mesh network around them unless they do an
active scan. We can also disable beacons for MPs as well and, MP neighbors
can be found with active scan.

 2. We can have a completely separate mode of operation which is that of a
legacy STA (station) according to the 802.11 parlance. There will be no
notion of mesh or MPP in this mode and the node will not transmit beacons.
It will only be able to associate to an Access point or join an *adhoc*
(not mesh) network. This would be more of a drastic, difficult and time-
consuming change in software. Hence, this can be planned for later.

In both cases, the average power consumption of the node (either an MPP in
case 1 or a legacy STA in case 2) will be lower.
