Comment:

 Dan, what do you think? Should we use X11 window properties in this case
 rather than DBus? We also have the active property which is similar (and
 which is the last method left in the service currently).

 I guess I'm not against using X11 for real properties. Where I don't want
 to get is to implement complex protocols (ab)using them.
