Comment:

Well, we do have the 45px tall "alert bar" notion as represented within
the current Browse mockups on the wiki (for showing staleness of the
page). It seems that this is something we could make available in a
general API. It basically amounts to a banner, the width of the screen,
that can have some text (limited to one line?) and optionally some mini
buttons within it. The API could offer both temporary and persistent ones
(such that it might disappear after a short while, or wait for user
 interaction to go away).

What are your thoughts on that? On one hand, it seems like a relatively
easy thing for an activity to do on it's own if it desires. On the other
hand, consistency is always good. Offering this form of alert as a
general service might be a really good idea. We have similar thoughts for
the mesh view with a 75px tall control. Maybe they're all the same thing,
and having a simple way to integrate them into various activities could be
good. They could replace, in many cases, the need for a dialog (though
 they should never be modal).
