Comment:

 I think the logic we want is slightly different from what you describe
 above. The shell has 4 zoom levels and there is *always* one active
 activity, which is independent from the zoom level.

 For example:

  * You run sugar and open a Write activity.
  * You switch back to the Home zoom level.

 Now the shell state is:

  * The active activity is Write.
  * The zoom level is HOME

 In practice for the cases you described above I think we want:

  * BuddiesMenu use the active activity (Write)
  * ShellService exposes to the presence service and to the activities the
 active activity (Write)
  * FriendsBox display the buddies partecipating to the active activity
 (Write)

 In short the activity you are participating to is Write, even if you are
 in the Home or Friends zoom level.
