Comment:

This goes hand in hand with one of the options mentioned in #2056. The
idea is that we need a copy/keep/duplicate button (exact terminology to be
determined). This button will probably go in the toolbar, and will copy
any entry (or set of selected entries) to the device selected. The
selected device could, of course, be the one that the file is already on,
in which case it should duplicate the object.

There's a tricky bit here, though, and it requires discussion. It seems
that when a kid copies an object to a USB drive, it should retain all of
its identity. It could have the same activity ID, and when launched would
basically be the same object. On the other hand, we also need a way to
"branch" an object. It seems like duplicating it would be the way to
accomplish this. By branching, I mean that it would have a new DS_id and
a new activity_id, would have a different version history, and could have
different scope, tags, etc. It would be a new object in the purest sense,
but created with the state of the one it was duplicated from. Can we
overload the duplicate button to do this? Do we make all copies create a
"deep" copy as a new instance?

We need to figure out the answers before we can design the copying UI
 correctly.
