Comment (by Eben):

I've been unclear, as I think we all have been, about the specific details
here. I think at this point most agree that we need to leave some of
these details up to the activity; or, at the very least, we need to make
the first layer one which is activity defined. The browser, for instance,
probably wants to show the HTML source, and not it's own source files.

On the other hand, I really liked a former idea to automatically launch a
(forthcoming?) Develop project with a fork of the activity, so that kids
could dive in, see the code, modify it, and run altered versions directly.
As some have pointed out, though, this would work best in a strictly
Python environment, and many activities depend on C and other languages
for many subroutines and underlying frameworks.

At the recent design meeting we came to the conclusion that, in some
cases, it's truly necessary to have a "popup" window of sorts. Of course,
we're going to make sure that when one is used it is absolutely needed.
Our current plan for the design is a large window (box, really; no ability
to drag, resize, maximize, minimize, or close from the a title bar...)
which takes up the region of the screen that the frame does not when
visible. This use of a substantial portion of the screen will provide a
small amount of context, with the activity still visible around the edges,
while consuming enough space to be the obvious and only focus while on
 screen.

It seems like a window of this type may be the proper place to put the
view source content, whatever that content may actually be. I think we
need to have some more discussion around this, especially with Walter who
has been thinking the most about its uses, at a later date. I don't
personally believe we'll have any solutions for this by trial 3.
