connect. when i tried the command iwconfig eth0 essid "-" , i would get

 arguments."

after much testing, i have found it is not the "-" which caused the
problem but something else. so in order to access my wrt54g v3 access
point i must do the following at the command line:
 1) stop network manager
 2) ifdown eth0
 3) ifup eth0
 4) dhclient eth0

this works with any essid. i tried not stopping the network manager (just
 cycling eth0) no luck.
i tried dhclient after just stopping network manager (before cycling eth0)
 and no luck.
