Comment:

 Delaying writes is about the only sane way to get performance; then again,
 you wouldn't use vfat for performance. It may be, that when we automout
 vfat someday, we might mount the file system synchronous.

 If you pull a mounted device out at a random time, you will get random
 results.

 Andres, see if the messages are indeed as "spectacular" as Albert claims.
