 The "try to see if a normal RPM install of libsdl will work ... if it
 doesn't work (likely)" part is indeed an incorrect rumor. A normal RPM
 install does in fact work, and there was no reason to believe otherwise.
 That includes SDL_ttf (TrueType font support) and SDL_mixer (audio
 support). I didn't test SDL_image (misc. image processing) or SDL_pango
 (fancy text layout).

 Getting SDL into the build and getting rid of nonsense dependencies is
 another matter of course, but SDL itself does indeed work fine.
