 The firmware version of the broken machine is Q2B85.

 I done some more testing to provide more info. The fist test was to run
 olpc-configure again from the prompt. It returned the following error
 message:



 ''dd: reading '/dev/nvram': Input/Output error''

 ''0+0 records in''

 ''0+0 records out''

 ''0 bytes (0 B) copied, 0.00076225 seconds, 0.0 kB/s''



 So, apparently the problem is related to /dev/nvram, not the scripts.
