 The DCON spec has been released, linked from
 http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Hardware_specification .  IRC chatter mentioned
 that it has a bunch of undocumented registers.  Nevertheless, the spec
 does answer many of Albert's display related questions.  Thanks, jg, for
 pushing this documentation along and out.
