Comment (by Eben):

From a design standpoint, we're taking resolution, screen size, and input
devices quite seriously. However, I certainly agree that without actually
testing it on the hardware, we have no way of adjusting the specs. We've
been mentioning these limitations for months now, but understand the
scarcity of test machines and are doing the best we can without them.

We've made most interface elements much larger than they are un usual UIs,
and the curesor likewise should be much bigger. Of course, since the
pipelines are all running in parallel, activities are being developed
already even though the HIG isn't done and the full interface isn't
spec'd. Hopefully once these specs are available and activities begin to
adhere to them, we can get a better feel for the overall usability of the
design and then make appropriate changes.

To speak specifically to this thread, I'm not sure if this interaction is
really too cumbersome or not. As a Mac user, I'm quite familiar with
going to the Application menu, at the very bottom of which I can select
"Quit." I've never had a problem with it, but that's on good hardware.
Of course, I always use COMMAND-Q anyway, and we will of course have key
bindings for this on the laptop as well, once we reach that step.
