Old description:

 When going to color mode, the backlight should get turned on....
 To, say 50%.  Then the user can adjust up and down from there.

 Right now, the behavior is counter-intuitive, to say the least.

 Adjusting the backlight also gives a misleading error message on the
 console terminal:

 Error:root:Invalid backlight level 16

 Just nuke the message; it isn't really an error.
