 As a sanity check for (3) above, I updated a dongle using my T41 laptop,
 without -DDEBUG_LEVELX.  That works.  Obviously this doesn't do anything
 to check a potential race condition, but it at least notes that updating
 without debugging printcode isn't completely broken.  cjb and I will try
 updating a B-test board without debug and see where we get.
