 In the Cairo performance work that has been going on, Behdad made a fix to
 Pango that takes the number of text extents calls from 3 to 0 on window
 refresh (and I think he's done other optimization.

 As soon as we have a baseline of our current performance, we should
 consider an update check with Behdad on pulling in a current Pango.

 FWIW: I've been running an updated pango for a number of days.  Firefox
 (built with Pango/Cairo) is subjectively faster, but that may be an
 illusion that real numbers might dash.
