 Ok, ignoring the EC issue for now.  I just committed a patch from
 http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=116484089810383&w=2

 This should take care of the issue, such that udev and the kernel no
 longer fall into a feedback loop.
