#549: usb wired network adapter not working correctly

I bought a linksys USB200M ethernet adapter so I could connect my laptop
to the internet where I can't get wireless access. The adapter works
correctly on my regular thinkpad, and it loads on the olpc, but it doesn't
function correctly. Everything seems to work except actually transmitting
 and receiving packets.

 notes:
  * if I use networkmanager, it tries to connect to the wired network, but
DHCP fails. My dhcp server reports:
DHCPINFORM from 4.0.0.0 via eth1: unknown subnet 0.0.0.0
  * if I use a static ip and route (using /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
/ifcfg-eth1), all of the settings look correct as reported by ifconfig and
route -n, but I can't ping my local network at all. All I see is
 "destination host unreachable".
Interestingly, ifconfig reports RX bytes: 0, and TX bytes: 13971 no matter
 what I do. Even if I ping -I eth1 192.168.1.1, the TX bytes doesn't
 increase.

Again, this adapter works perfectly on my thinkpad running Ubuntu edgy and
 networkmanager.
