 Now that I know the background about the nickname colour I think that this
 problem has to be solved by either changing the background of the frame to
 be suitable for the foreground colour, or sugar activies would need to
 supply icons in some kind of two-color format where one colour can be
 painted in black and the other one in white (to get a frame around parts
 of the pictogram).

 Limiting the set of selectable colours to those that work on the grey
 background does not seem very suitable because the nick color might need
 to be used in other contexts as well.
