no news really..
You can redirect him to "OLPC Brasil" <Brasil@laptop.org> if he is really interested in. I have to say that the fast pace the auction went last year was an exception rather than the rule..
hi wayan. I would love to be able to contribute more to olpcnews, but i don´t realy believe I would be up to the challenge. I can´t even keep my own blog updated.

Good luck with the editor, but please keep the olpcnews alive. I am in the team that believes that in the end of the day negroponte doesn't matters anymore: there are a quarter million uruguayans, hundreds thousands of peruvians and nepalese (among other) children using the laptop today and those will keep the education aspect alive and well. If all OLPC does from now on is keep selling the same laptop for cheaper, we all gain from it.
Hi everyone,

Maybe you've noticed, but I'm really disappointed with the turn towards the Dark Side at OLPC. The Dark Side being more than just MSFT, but the whole idea that just cheap laptops, any laptops, will be the best for children. This change undercuts the whole idea of OLPC as I understood it, and quenches my passion to be the blog of record about the program.

At the same time, I'm entering into new personal and professional commitments that will soon eclipse OLPC News in importance and time consumption. More on these as I can talk about them, but the general result is the same - I will not be able to manage OLPC News on a daily basis.

Add those two together and I find myself looking for an OLPC News editor.

Someone who can keep abreast of the organization and promote the community. They don't need to be as fanatical as I've been in daily publishing, but do have to be willing and able to commit to three posts a week, be they self-written or Guest Posts. They'll also be managing OLPC News Forums, which is pretty light, only a overview once a week or so.

The benefits are amazing. Besides becoming a thought leader in technology for development, quoted in major publications (on and offline) and even cameos on TV and radio, they'll get the great and seemingly endless goodwill of the OLPC community and be asked to speak at random events in their community on OLPC. They can also split the site revenues with me, though before anyone gets too excited, its only pulling in around $100 a month. Beer money at best, and a pittance when compared with the time input.

I would stay on as the Publisher, and offer advice and input (both editorial and content) as needed. Once they prove themselves capable and committed, we can even explore turning over the whole site to them, though with the express guarantee they will keep it going and leave the archives undisturbed.

So to you, my loyal contributors, I offer this opportunity. Please give it a good think, and let me know if any of you are interested. Also, if there are others you think might be interested, please let me know.

Last, but not least, please keep this confidential for now. I am still thinking through the idea and would like to have your input before I make this change public.
