<br><br>[Español más abajo]<br><br>Dear Sugar Labs / OLPC / eToys L10n community,<br><br>You've probably seen the messages about an effort will be starting in Peru to work on indigenous language localization. This is tied into a Sugar Camp event being planned by the local community that will include a translation marathon.<br>
<br>Typically when a new language is getting going, I would encourage them to carry out their preparation work on the L10n list so that they can benefit from the experience resident here and so that the lessons learned would be archived on our list archive. In this case, there is already a large community of people that have a list that they call home, the SomosAzucar list:<br>

While all langauges are welcome on the L10n list, the logistics of the event being planned on the SomosAzucar list and fact that most of the directly involved parties are subscribed there suggests to me that it makes logical sense (as well as being polite) to carry out the discussion of preparing for the L10n process on the SomosAzucar list and to not copy the L10n list on every message. <br>
<br>I will try to cc this list if there is something that seems particularly relevant to the broader community, but for the most part, I intend to have this discussion on the SomosAzucar list. I would encourage anyone on this list that is interested in participating in the discussion to subcribe there, or at least follow along in their list archives. I would particulaly welcome the Huastec Team to join the discussion over there so that we might benefit from your recent experience and also because there are some issues discussed (e,g, glibc locales) that will apply equally to bringing your translations to the XO laptop.<br>
<br>Topics I hope to discuss are:<br><br>General L10n orientation (the manual I tried to link earlier)<br><br>Tools for L10n (Pootle, Virtaal, instrans others as needed)<br><br>Selecting and prioritizing L10n targets<br>

The importance of a glibc locale and how to create one.<br><br>The role of a langauge administrator on Poolte.<br><br>Quality control methods (pofilter tests, other tools from the Translate Toolkit like poconflicts).<br>

At some point I plan to assemble this stuff and put it up on the wiki, but for now, I'll be focused on addressing the specific questions that need to be answered to help SomosAzucar meet their L10n goals in their very tight timeline.<br>

<br>Voy a tratar de cc esta lista si hay algo que parece ser particularmente relevante para la comunidad en general, pero en su mayor parte, tengo la intención de tener esta discusión en la lista de SomosAzucar. Yo animaría a cualquiera en esta lista que está interesada en participar en la discusión de subcribe allí, o al menos seguir a lo largo en los archivos de su lista. Yo daría la bienvenida a particulaly el equipo de la Huasteca para unirse a la discusión sobre lo que Tha podríamos beneficiarnos de su experiencia reciente y también porque hay algunas cuestiones debatidas (e, g, locales glibc) que se aplicará por igual a llevar sus traducciones a la computadora portátil XO .<br>

<br>En algún momento tengo la intención de reunir este material y lo puso en el wiki, pero por ahora, voy a estar centrado en abordar las cuestiones específicas que necesitan ser contestadas para ayudar a cumplir con sus objetivos SomosAzucar L10n en su calendario muy apretado.<br>
