From the wiki page:

Finance is a simple financial planning activity. It can be integrated into classroom assignments, or else used to track finances for a school club. It might also be useful for students who wish to help their parents with home finances.

The register view allows students to enter income and expenses, assign categories, and review past transactions. The chart view shows students a visual breakdown of their expenses by category. The budget view allows users to assign a monthly budget to each category, and to see how each month's expenses compare to the budget.

Finance is designed to be extensively localized. The user interface is translatable, and local conventions are used to display monetary values.

If any educators or deployments are interested in this using activity, let me know!

I created a section on the 9.1.0 planning page for activities: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/9.1.0_requirements#Activities I want to get all potential activities listed there. An activity will need to be tested with the release and have a maintainer to have a chance for inclusion. Like last time, we will gather input from everyone then make a decision on the final set. OLPC management gets the final say but I will make sure they hear the voice of the community, preferably consensus. You can help by updating that Wiki page with the details of the activities you think should be included. Personally, I would like to see a few fun (but not violent) activities. Something colorful, exciting and fun for kids. My kids recently started playing with Spore demos. I'm not asking for something that pretty, but a few really fun looking and addictive applications for kids would be great! Morgan, What can we do to fire up the activity community (and list) again? Can you make sure we have the full list of contacts you gathered from the last round? We can also cook up an invite e-mail to get people thinking about 9.1.0 once we have a contact list. Target is to have tested, working activities to choose from by the end of February. Any comments or questions welcome. I included the full thread for background. In order to do better this time around, I want to get some SimCity and Micropolis testing done early. Can I ask the activity test teams to write test cases and do some testing on SimCity and Micropolis? Find the latest versions here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activities/All#Games Let me know where to track the results. There will still be a question of space available on the XO so its not sure we can get them in, but we need them tested and ready to have a chance. Thanks, Greg S *************** Hi John, Looking back at 8.2, I went back found the ticket (at least we have a ticket :-) where we removed simcity and I see your comment asking for a reason. I also see you didn't get an answer. I think the reason was that it wasn't well tested or possibly that there was a problem found (maybe it didn't launch right from the journal). I think it came down to someone opening it up here in the office, seeing something they didn't like and then deciding that we didn't have time to test it more. I know that's not a good answer. There should be a bug filed if there was a specific problem. I plan to make sure we do better this time around. That's why I'm trying to start early. There is also a question of how much available space we have. We may be much more squeezed this time if we also include a standard Fedora desktop. Anyway, its obviously a great activity which meets my request for fun, entertaining and interesting to look at. I'll put it on the list and make you the contact (using wiki name) if that's OK. Can you help test it and write a simple test case for it? Is there a Spanish translation for it or is it in Pootle? I don't know what the implications are of the Micropolis vs. SimCity. Tell me which one will be available for test and better supported by January/February and we'll focus on that. HTHs. Painting has been optimized, refresh bugs have been fixed, a color pickup feature has been added, and numerous polishing tweaks have been made to the UI. http://dev.laptop.org/~wadeb/Colors!-13.xo Testing and feedback are welcome, as always. The wiki page will be updated once the server comes back up! Best, Wade Note: There are still some minor known bugs in collaboration. I'm having a hard time getting my XO VM and my real XO to see each other. But I hope to make another release which resolves these issues before long. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... With your kernel module and with X properly configured, supporting Wacom tablets in activities requires no code at all, and accessing pressure information is a one line addition. However, since the OLPC builds do not have the kernel module, and do not have X configured to support Wacom tablets, I provide a script on the Colors! wiki page which will set your computer up. The script downloads and installs your wacom.ko file from d.l.o, and replaces xorg-dcon.conf with one that has the needed devices.
